Borrowed from French en brosse (crew cut).

  1. (dated) Of the hair: closely cropped so that the hairs stick upward, like the short bristles of a brush; in a crew cut.
    • 1956, Ian Fleming, chapter 4, in Diamonds Are Forever:
      He had a very square face whose sharp angles were accentuated by short, wiry black hair, cut en brosse and without side-whiskers.
